Auto Insurance Requirements

It is legally required for all Kentucky residents that own a car to obtain insurance and also meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bodily injury coverage for $25,000
  • Bodily injury coverage for each accident for $50,000
  • Property damage coverage for $25,000

Additionally, Kentucky requires all motorists to obtain PIP protection for $10,000.

  • Uninsured/underinsured- Being involved in an accident with another motorist who doesn’t have insurance can be nerve-wracking. This protects you if another driver causes an accident and doesn’t have insurance or enough insurance. It will also cover any lost wages and medical expenses.
  • Medical payments- If you are injured following an accident, this will cover your medical expenses and your passengers’ medical expenses.
  • Roadside assistance- If you are ever stranded in your vehicle, this will cover towing expenses for your car if your battery dies or you have a flat tire or some other issue.
